Nice stock price increase, solid volume of traded shares and several questions with no answer – this is the week for Ranger Gold Corp. (OTC:RNGC). There is no all-time high in place, yet since the price increase is considerable there are a few aspects that should not go overlooked prior to making an informed decision about investing in this company.Â
It has been almost a year since trading volumes like the one yesterday were last seen on the stock market. Much like then, there is a press release that fueled the trading frenzy this Tuesday. Yesterday, Ranger announced that the company has received approval of its drilling permit application for a project in Nevada. Operations are to commence in the near future, depending on weather and road conditions. A reason, good enough for almost 500k shares to change hands during the session, making up for a 37% price increase with a closing price of $0.55.
Usually, what most people would do is take a look at the financials and the stock performance in the near past in order to get a better idea of the potential for profits. In this case, one of the things that they would discover is that a sharp increase in the stock price takes place very often, and in many of the cases there is virtually nothing to justify the stock performance. No company announcement, no SEC filing, no promotion, no even rumours on the Internet. A very good example of that is how the stock moved last week. [BANNER]
In terms, while this cannot be classified as a good or bad sign, it certainly brings a level of uncertainty to the general picture, and so does the total lack of activity in all major financial blogs and forums. For example, on iHub there are no posts for 2011. The last one focuses on shorters and their actions associated with Ranger Gold back in 2010. Speaking of shorters, they also contributed to the huge volume yesterday.
All in all, it is one more enterprise on the penny stock market which has potential on one side, and a huge warning sign on the other. The lack of information, the lack of stock movement catalysts and the volatility are factors that make up for a misty future and lack of investor confidence.
