The Consumer Confidence Index decreased to 48.5 (1985=100) in September after increasing to 53.2 in August from 51 in July. The index was expected to decrease with the consensus at 52.8. The Present Situation Index decreased to 23.1 from 24.9 last month. The Expectations Index declined to 65.4 from 72.0 in August. Consumers concerns about current market conditions weakened further and the short-term outlook, which had improved in August, was pessimistic.
