Global lab chemical and life sciences company Sigma Aldrich Corporation (SIAL), recently wrapped up the expansion of its Bangalore, India, facility. The 57,000-square-foot expansion, including an extended distribution center and a new packaging facility, boosts the Missouri-based company’s distribution capabilities in the Asia-Pacific.

Sigma Aldrich said that the expansion, which complements its existing R&D and manufacturing infrastructure, will help it improve customer support in India and other regions in the Asia-Pacific.

The expansion, which features roughly 49,000 square feet of distribution space and 8,000 square feet of packaging space, will allow Sigma Aldrich to offer turnkey services at the Bangalore campus. The company’s existing 10-acre facility will continue to house the administrative offices as well as manufacturing, sales, marketing and distribution operations.

Sigma Aldrich is actively expanding its foothold in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the fast-growing emerging markets such as India, China and Brazil. The company’s latest investment in the Bangalore campus is in sync with this expansion strategy.

Sigma Aldrich makes and distributes various biochemicals and organic chemicals that are used in scientific and genomic research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, diagnosis of diseases and chemical manufacturing. The company operates across 40 nations.

Sigma Aldrich’s significant investments in sales, marketing and R&D initiatives are generating demand for its products. To boost growth, the company plans to increase its focus on marketing, business development and R&D, while continuing with its efforts to improve process and operations management.

Moreover, Sigma Aldrich is seeking to take advantage of country-specific opportunities by expanding its presence in high-growth countries. Sales in the company’s focus markets of China, India and Brazil collectively soared 29% in the most recent quarter, buoyed by its sustained investment in these markets and the acquisition of Brazil-based leading specialty chemical supplier Vetec Quimica Fina Ltda.

We are currently Neutral on Sigma Aldrich which is in agreement with a short-term Zacks #3 Rank (Hold).
