Singapore stocks started higher Thursday on Wall Street’s rally, with the STI opened up 14.28 points to 2902.66.

Singapore News Updates:

  1. Natural Cool Holdings Limited’s unit has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Emirates Tarian Capital (S) Pte Ltd to sell the group’s building at 29 Tai Seng Avenue for S$53 million.
  2. Federal Hardware Engineer, a unit of Federal International (2000) Ltd, has been awarded additional US$8.9 million contract by Saipem Spa.
  3. SPH said on Wednesday its Q1 net profit nearly doubled yoy.
  4. Novo seeks to place 88 million shares to raise S$20.2 million. The placement will raise its public float to 25%, which the company says is to prepare it for a possible dual primary listing in Hong Kong.
  5. Yanlord buys China Land for 309 million. The acquisition marks Yanlord’s maiden foray into Hainan’s tourism and hospitality sector.

News Updates:

  1. The Australian stocks lifted by stronger-than-expected jobs data; unemployment rate decreased by 0.1% in seasonally adjusted terms to reach 5.5% in December.

  2. The Sydney market received a boost from news December jobs rose by 35,200, beating market expectations for a 10,000 rise while the jobless rate was a tad lower at 5.5% from 5.6% in November.

  3. U.S. stocks lifted by health care, financials; Dow industrials finish up 54 points
