Sonoco Products Co. (SON) recently introduced MIRRORINK, a new printing process which produces the metallic finish without using the age-old de-metallization process. MIRROINK helps attract consumers to the shops by producing mirror finish, at the same time saving costs, improving sustainability and increasing speed to market the product.
Sonoco did a lot of research with its graphics management and tooling business, Trident and a global manufacturer of metallic pigments to achieve its mirror like finish, in varying silver and golden hues. This process efficiently transfers the ink and identifies the correct adhesives to prevent degradation of the pigment unlike other printing processes available in the market.
Advantages of MIRRORINK
MIRRORINK has various merits over the traditional de-metallization process. Firstly, the process uses a metallic pigment made from real metal flakes, which enables it to exhibit mirror-like shine; secondly, this process also eliminates the waste stream of highly corrosive elements, by registering the metalized ink only where required; thirdly, the process also minimizes the consumption of water and energy, making it more environment-friendly.
Fourthly, this process helps deliver the products to the markets without any delay; fifthly, this process helps improve the packaging of the goods, particularly confectionary products, which plays an important role to please the senses of the consumers and lastly, flexible packages offered by this process are also compatible with the metal detectors used commonly in food packaging.
