Are you feeling the effects of the recent economic downturn? Are you looking for new ways to cut your monthly expense? This bad economy has us all looking for ways to tighten our belts. Every dollar that you can save is an extra dollar in your pocket. Over the next few days I will post tips to help you save some extra cash.
Here is Tip #1: Renegotiate your cable bill.
Although your paycheck may be decreasing, rates for cable television and satellite TV are steadily rising. Cable prices have been increasing 6 to 7 percent annually. According to the New York Times, cable prices have increased at twice the rate of inflation. So, how can you fight back against rising cable prices? Contact your local cable company and renegotiate your cable bill. Inform your cable provider that you are unable to keep paying such high prices. Major cable companies have customer retention departments. These customer retention departments will do just about anything to keep you as a customer including free months of service, price discounts, and lower annual rates. This is because it much cheaper for cable companies to retain a current customer than to pay the marketing costs associated with attracting a new customer. When negotiating with your cable company, always be prepared to cancel your service if necessary. You can always get a better price from a competitor. You may even discover that you can return to your former cable provider as a new customer and are eligible for new customer discounts.
