Forexpros – U.S. stocks were up after the closing bell on Monday.
At the close of U.S. trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.59%, the S&P 500 index gained 2.33%, while the Nasdaq 100 index climbed 1.24%.
Earlier in the day, official data showed that new home sales in the U.S. fell less-than-expected to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 295K last month from 302K in the preceding month whose figure was revised up from 298K.
Analysts had expected new home sales to fall to 293K last month.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, European stock markets closed higher. France’s CAC 40 was up 1.75%; Germany’s DAX gained 2.87%; Britain’s FTSE 100 climbed 0.45%; and the EURO STOXX 50 rose 2.83%.
