Forexpros – U.S. stocks were down after the closing bell on Monday.

At the close of U.S. trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.11%, the S&P 500 index shed 1.86%, while the Nasdaq 100 index declined 1.90%.

Earlier in the day, industry data showed that existing home sales rose unexpectedly to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.97M last month from 4.90M in the preceding month whose figure was revised down from 4.91M.

Analysts had expected existing home sales to fall to 4.80M last month.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, European stock markets closed lower. France’s CAC 40 was down 3.41%; Germany’s DAX shed 3.35%; Britain’s FTSE 100 declined 2.62%; and the EURO STOXX 50 fell 3.42%.
