The December Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.1%, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the index increased 2.7% before seasonal adjustment.
Core CPI, without food and energy prices, also rose 0.1% in December 2009.
Food and Energy prices rose 0.2% on the month. On a Yearly basis, food prices fell -0.5%, while energy increased 18.2%.

The data came in at or very near expectations. It remains true that there is no inflationary pressure, at least not as recorded in the CPI data, on the Fed, so it is accommodating their loose monetary policy.
