In collaboration with Black Horse Taxi Finance, VeriFone Systems Inc. (PAY) recently agreed to provide a financial incentive to the drivers of London’s famed, but high-emission, black taxis.

Black Horse finances its customers to buy cars, caravans, motorhomes or motorbikes through a network of over 7,000 dealers.

Both the organizations will provide a financial allowance of £3,000 on a first come, first service basis to the drivers on the sales of 200 new Euro 4 – TX4 Style or Elegance London Taxis, in exchange for older vehicles including, Fairway, TX1 or Metrocab vehicles through the Islington retail outlet of the UK’s top retailer of London’s iconic black taxi, The London Taxi Company.

In addition, the taxi drivers will receive VeriFone-branded livery for their new vehicle and a pre-installed VeriFone card payment system.

The initiative extends financial assistance to the drivers keen on purchasing newer, less polluting vehicles. Thus this incentive will support the drivers in complying with the air quality strategy, which emphasizes improvement of air quality and reduction of transport related emissions.

Management stated that this scheme will encourage London’s taxis to transform into a greener world class fleet by modernizing the vehicles of drivers.

Currently, VeriFone provides card payment solutions to The London Taxi Company. Furthermore, the company is supporting The London Taxi Company in the establishment of the advanced electronic payments systems.

Based in San Jose, California, VeriFone provides solutions for electronic payment systems for the financial, retail, hospitality, petroleum, transportation, government and health care vertical markets.
