Data sources and methods of compilation are described below.
The week looks great but feels terrible-the daily chart for the NewYork composite index ($NYA) comprising about 7000 stocks and the broadest measure shows why: The huge green candle for Thursday, May 27th offset the other 4 negatives in the week but did so on very light volume. The momentum shown on the Williams %R spiked up but has turned down again and is not “oversold” by this measure.
The patterns for the major markets are all very similar so this is a pretty decent overview. Only the Dow finished negative on the week and the big hits were taken by the stocks that have a big percentage of their earnings generated in Europe such as MacDonald’s.
The NYA weekly: the index finished up 15 points on the week but the range from top to bottom was 440 points. This is a virtual doji and reflects real indecision. The index is well-under the 200dma and broke back below the 50dma which it had recovered above on Thursday. Review the weekly data tables and check the year to date numbers as well-these have moved dramatically in the last few weeks.
Note particularly gold and the US dollar index-this is a change which has crept in quietly.
Many speeches will be given today expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made by those in generations past and our beloved today. Few will speak of our obligation as the eloquently as this:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
In Flanders Fields – John McRae
Enjoy your freedom today-cherish it, protect it-for it is not a free gift but must be earned and deserved. There are many who would take it from you by any means and with any tactics or methods that suits their purpose. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. The war being fought to let government do everything for you, make every decision, control every market, every outcome, every value is something to ponder
