Wright Medical Group, Inc. (WMGI) recently announced the commercial launch of its new product, the Xpansion Micrografting System. It is a single-use disposable instrument kit used for split-thickness skin grafting for the treatment of traumatic and burn wounds via a minimized donor site.

Xpansion System has the unique feature to micro-morselize a very small skin graft. This helps to provides wound coverage of up to 100 times greater than the donor site’s graft size. This compares with only 9 to 10 times the size of the donor grafts with the conventional techniques used for skin grafting.

The Xpansion System can be used as an alternate treatment as against the conventional method, in which a powered cutting-blade is used for grafting. The new System would thus be less painful for patients.

The addition of the Xpansion System to Wright’s portfolio enhances its already rich array of products for foot and ankle surgeons, including Graftjacket Regenerative Tissue Matrix, Pro-DENSE Injectable Regenerative Graft and various other products. The Xpansion System will be complementary to the Graftjacket Matrix, which allows the body to rebuild areas with deficient tissues.

Wright estimates that more than 215,000 split thickness skin grafting procedures are performed annually in the U.S. The Xpansion System will be in great demand because of its user-friendly structure as compared with the conventional techniques. This will lead to greater revenue and further top-line growth at Wright Medical.
