In a continuing effort to provide words of wisdom from beyond the walls of Zacks, here are a few things that I think people should find to be interesting. The views expressed in the articles are not always shared by either myself or Zacks, but I do find them thought-provoking.

Party Like It’s 1937

Randall Forsyth, a Barron’s reporter asks if the country is going down the same path that we went down in 1937 where both fiscal and monetary policy were tightened prematurely and ended up greatly lengthening the Great Depression. I think we are, but maybe it is just “1937 lite” — enough to slow the forward progress of the economy, but not enough tightening to send us back into recession.

Top Ten Tax Charts

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a non-partisan but generally left-leaning think tank has some excellent chart porn in honor of tax day. They point out that the tax burden, particularly on the wealthy, is not particularly high by either historical or international standards.

New York Times columnist David Brooks looks at the underlying philosophical position of Rep. Paul Ryan, and contrasts them to those of President Obama.
