Wright Medical Group Inc. (WMGI) launched a new product, CORETRAK Articulating External Fixator, which is designed to meet the challenging fixation cases of the foot, particularly for diabetic patients.

External fixation is useful for diabetic patients as it stabilizes bones while avoiding infected areas. The new product has a patient-friendly design that can adapt to multiple conditions in the foot. This simplifies the procedure for the surgeon, patient and hospital staff.

The new approval is the latest addition to the company’s expanding product range for foot and ankle surgeries. This is expected to boost the company’s top-line. Wright Medical is a global orthopedic devices company specializing in the design, manufacture, and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and bio-orthopedic materials.

CORETRAK Articulating External Fixator is available in a sterile packaged procedure kit that saves surgical procedure time by eliminating the need for cleaning and sterilizing. The kits are also extremely helpful in military and emergency operations where time is a premium.

Wright Medical will sell the product in the U.S. through its specialized foot and ankle sales force and in select international markets through its direct and distributor-based sales representatives.

The orthopedic industry is highly competitive, and Wright Medical faces challenges from large players, such as Zimmer Holdings Inc. (ZMH), Stryker Corp. (SYK), Johnson & Johnson/DePuy (JNJ), Smith & Nephew plc. (SNN) and Biomet.
