For simple straight forward tasks that are incentive based, the results are outstanding.

For complicated, conceptual, critical thinking tasks, the higher incentives lead to worse performances.

Money is a motivator:

  • If you don’t pay people enough, they won’t be motivated.
  • The best use of money as a motivator is to pay people enough to take money off the table. That way they’re thinking about their job more than their money and that leads to better performance.
