Housing Starts in December decreased by 4.3% to an annual pace of 529,000, lower than the expected level of 552,000, from the revised figure of 553,000 in November (originally reported at 555,000). Over the year the figure has decreased by 8.2% from the December 2009 rate of 576,000. Building Permits increased by 16.7% over the month to 635,000, higher than the expected level of 555,000, following 544,000 permits annualized in November (originally reported at 530,000). Over the year, Building Permits decreased by 6.8% from the 681,000 pace in December 2009.
