The TJX Companies, Inc. (TJX) with a vision to expand its Marshall store operation in Canada, recently announced that it will open 6 stores in spring 2011. Marshall is the subsidiary of TJX Companies, the largest off-price apparel and home fashions retailer in the United States and across the globe.

The company marks the fourth off-price retail division of TJX with other banners like Winners store, Home Sense and Stylesense. Although TJX did not disclose the location of the Marshall stores; however, divulged that Canada market can support opening of another 90 to 100 Marshall stores. Marshall will be supervised by TJX Canada.

Marshall’s foray into Canada embodies TJX’s endeavor to exploit international market and makes the portfolio all the very strong as Canadian market delivers best financial returns for the company.

Marshall which offers a full line of shoes and a broader selection of menswear through 800-plus stores was acquired by TJX in 1995.  Marshall continues to have significant store growth opportunities in markets across the U.S with opportunities to expand successful merchandise initiatives.

TJX has turned out to be a better performer during recession than other retailers. The company’s strategy of buying fashion brands at prices below wholesale and then selling them at steep discounts has resonated with consumers.

Canada is an under-penetrated market and offer companies with opportunities to grow. Companies with its continuous effort to capitalize on growth potential will lead to higher volume.

We believe that the off-price retailers provide good opportunity for bargain hunters who look for valuable brands at lower prices. Moreover, the middle class customers who cannot afford to pay prices at full-line stores can go to such stores.
