UTC Fire & Security, a group company of United Technologies Corp. (UTX), announced that it intends to offer a comprehensive range of security products through four brands – Interlogix, Lenel, Supra and Onity. Businesses built around these brands are intended to operate as independent businesses, with separate product development, customer support and sales organizations.
UTC Fire & Security had acquired GE Security in March 2010 and operates three separately managed business units – Global Security Products; Global Fire Products and Fire & Security Services. It offers electronic security products, such as intruder alarms, access control systems, and video surveillance systems; and fire safety products, including specialty hazard detection and fixed suppression products, portable fire extinguishers, and other firefighting equipment. It also offers systems integration, installation, maintenance, and inspection services; and monitoring, response, and security personnel services, such as cash-in-transit security.
United Technologies provides high technology products and services to the building systems and aerospace industries worldwide.

United Technologies has strong market positions in aerospace/defense and global infrastructure with a portfolio that includes: Carrier, Otis, Hamilton Sundstrand, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky and Fire & Security.

United Technologies is one of the few companies that can take advantage of strategic merger and acquisition (M&A) once liquidity is restored and functioning M&A markets re-emerge, which are more likely in the remainder of fiscal 2010.

The company is highly dependent on the U.S. government’s budgetary allocation for defense. Its business may also be affected by government contracting risks.

The company designs, manufactures and services products that incorporate advanced technologies. The introduction of new products and technologies involves risks, and the degree or timing of benefits may not be correctly anticipated.
We currently have a Neutral recommendation on United Technolgies.
